Investing in Connection and Community Across Pennsylvania

Investing in our Communities

In Pennsylvania, we invested nearly $1.6 billion in our network infrastructure from 2019-2023 to connect more people to greater possibility.

Cities and communities throughout Pennsylvania are seeing the impacts of this investment, including:

  • Nearly $850 million in Greater Philadelphia (includes parts of Delaware and New Jersey)
  • Nearly $350 million in the Pittsburgh market
  • Nearly $20 million in the Erie market
  • More than $35 million in the Lancaster-Harrisburg-York market
  • More than $10 million in the Johnstown market
  • More than $80 million in the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton area (Includes part of New Jersey)

We understand how a connection can make the difference. That’s why our mission is to bring connectivity to everyone, no matter where they live or where they come from. Weā€™re working to not only boost network reliability and capacity but also expand broadband nationwide to help bridge the digital divide.

Committed to expanding connectivity, our investment focuses on all facets of the network ā€” including 5G and FirstNet,Ā® Built with AT&T.Ā

  • Unlocking the Power of 5G: From rural communities to urban areas, our overall wireless voice and data network covers more than 99% of all Americans, including Pennsylvania. Our 5G network today reaches more than 295 million people in more than 24,500 cities and towns across the U.S. with our mid-band spectrum available nationwide, covering more than 210 million people.
    • Weā€™re ramping up performance in high traffic areas, like airports, stadiums and venues, including the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
    • Weā€™re expanding our 5G network in communities across the state so more people can have access to reliable connectivity.
  • Giving First Responders the Reliable Connectivity they Need: As Americaā€™s public safety communication partner, we are expanding and enhancing FirstNet to give the public safety community better access to their network. Setting the stage for first responder innovation over the next 10 years, the FirstNet Authority announced a series of strategic investments totaling more than $8 billion into FirstNet. The latest network investment of $6.3 billion will enable AT&T to deliver a standalone FirstNet 5G core, provide always-on priority and preemption across all AT&T 5G commercial spectrum bands and build 1,000 new FirstNet sites across the country over the next two years.
    • In Pennsylvania, weā€™re connecting public safety agencies and organizations in more than 700 communities across the state.
    • Weā€™ve rolled out Band 14 on more than 2,200 sites across Pennsylvania to provide public safety with truly dedicated coverage and capacity when they need it.
  • Expanding Access to Fiber: Weā€™re bringing AT&T Fiber to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre market! Through a joint venture with BlackRock, we plan to serve customers outside of AT&Tā€™s traditional service areas through Gigapower.

And, weā€™re not just investing in our network, weā€™re also investing in our communities. AT&T recently announced itā€™s committing an additional $3 billion by 2030 to help close the digital divide, bringing the companyā€™s total commitment to $5 billion since 2021.

  • The Police Athletic League of Philadelphia (PAL) received a $10,000 contribution from AT&T to support low-income students ages 6-18 with a safe and positive environment where they have computer access and will receive training in areas like basic computer operations, business software, research tools, and typing to help improve their academic skills. AT&T and the team at PAL also distributed laptops to local families and students. The 250 laptops, funded by an AT&T donation to Human-I-T, will enable access to the internet and the myriad digital tools and opportunities available online. Read more.
  • AT&T and Human I-T teamed up with the 3-Star Foundation in Harrisburg to provide 100 refurbished laptops to Harrisburg students in need. AT&T also announced a $5,000 contribution to the 3-Star Foundation to support their work.
  • The Best of the Batch Foundation received a $10,000 contribution from AT&T to support the Digital Family program that provides eligible 3rd-12th graders and their caregivers with technology and digital training in cyberbullying, Microsoft applications, and online safety so they can function effectively in a digital world.
