AT&T Boosts Network Speeds for Rural Maine

In the first six months of 2023, AT&T* launched new cell towers and network enhancements in nearly a dozen locations across Northern Maine to enhance the area’s coverage and capacity for customers and first responders.

These new sites are all located in Washington County and Aroostook County, bringing improved service to these most rural areas of the state.

The new sites will also expand the areas of the state served by Band 14 spectrum. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet®, the public safety communications network. We’ve rolled out Band 14 on more than 400 sites across Maine to provide first responders with truly dedicated coverage and capacity when they need it. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity. Band 14 is benefitting first responders in all 16 counties across the state.

We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected, especially in the northernmost regions of the state,” said Owen Smith, President – AT&T Maine. “These new network resources will help residents and businesses get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play. And we have a responsibility unlike any other network provider to support the public safety mission by bringing Maine first responders greater access to the reliable connectivity they need.”

From 2020 – 2022, AT&T invested nearly $110 million in our wireless network infrastructure in Maine.
