What’s New: AT&T along with staff members and volunteers at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows celebrated the opening of the first AT&T Connected Learning Center in Nevada within the Donald L. Carano Youth & Teen Facility. The center, along with a $50K contribution from AT&T, will help offer a free space, along with devices and resources to the community as part of our mission to help bridge the digital divide.
Why It Matters: The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows at the Donald L. Carano Youth & Teen Facility, located in the midtown area of Reno, is the leading nonprofit youth services agency in northern Nevada. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for children of all ages in the Truckee Meadows valley through after-school programming and services. This center is focused on educational opportunities, belonging, and influence through its diverse programming for the youth members it serves. The latest AT&T contributions bring an entirely new realm of possibility to the center’s educational and technological growth opportunities.
Yes, And… The grand opening celebration was attended by Club youth and staff, volunteers, members of the Board of Directors, along with local and state officials and representatives from AT&T.
Go Deeper: AT&T, in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, saw an opportunity to help connect the children of Reno to technology and opportunities they may otherwise not have received. AT&T upgraded the facility with AT&T Fiber and provided refurbished computers, equipment for Virtual Reality learning and games, and 3D printers. This was the 31st Connected Learning Center that AT&T opened and is part of a broader outreach effort to meet community needs and address the digital divide.
What They’re Saying: “It’s a valuable resource that aligns perfectly with the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows to serve kids in our community and to provide them with experiences they may not have access to otherwise. Our members now have access to cutting-edge technology that’s set to transform the way they learn, grow, and inspire. The AT&T Connected Learning Center has state-of-the-art features, including lightning-fast fiber optic internet, VR experiences, 3D printers, and more. It’s a milestone achievement that represents a giant leap forward in bridging the digital divide and ensuring our young minds have the tools they need to thrive today.” – Mike Wurm, President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.
What’s Next: This center is one of dozens across the country that will continue to offer free access to a range of digital resources for students and families all under one roof. Resources include educational tools and curriculums, tutoring and mentoring from AT&T employees, workshops, computers, and a dedicated space to connect with all the opportunities that high-speed AT&T Fiber internet can provide.
