AT&T announced today that it will deploy portable equipment to enhance high-speed, wireless service for its customers attending the professional baseball game this Thursday, August 12 in Dyersville, where thousands of people will see movie magic merge with reality.
This unique and special event, which is the first major league baseball game ever held in Iowa, will be played near the iconic movie location. With its bucolic setting in the cornfields of Dyersville, the game will look like a throwback to an earlier era, but fans will still expect 21st century communications capabilities.
To meet those expectations, AT&T will provide wireless broadband service for its customers through a portable, mobile cell tower, called a Cell on Wheels (COW), that will enable fans to enjoy a typical game experience in which they can use their mobile devices to text, share pictures, look up player statistics and more.
While cows are hardly unique in Iowa, AT&Tās COW will keep its customers connected during the game and provide them with additional safety and security. The portable cell tower will not only give fans high-speed online access but will help ensure first responders have the coverage, capacity and that they need to stay connected during the event. Ā AT&T routinely deploys a variety of portable cell sites to expand network connectivity to remote areas, to deliver service during emergencies or to provide additional coverage and capacity for large events.
āOur network engineers have been hard at work deploying equipment to help meet the demand of our customers at the game for seamless connectivity, solid coverage and fast speeds.ā

āThe game is sure to be a memorable experience for our customers in Iowa, and we want to make it easier for them to share their favorite experiences with friends and family through text messages, photos, status updates on social networks and calls from their mobile devices,ā said Dustin Blythe, Director-External Affairs, AT&T Iowa. āOur network engineers have been hard at work deploying equipment to help meet the demand of our customers at the game for seamless connectivity, solid coverage and fast speeds.ā
To ensure that residents across Iowa continue to enjoy the best possible experience over the AT&T network, AT&T has invested nearly $150 million from 2018-2020 in its wireless network to expand coverage and improve connectivity in more communities across the state than ever before.
