We’re bringing a spark to the Electric City with a new AT&T Connected Learning Center SM (CLC) in Scranton – the first in the state – located at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The Center, the first of its kind in Pennsylvania, provides students from Scranton with free access to a variety of digital resources. Among these are The Achievery SM, AT&T’s free digital learning platform, and digital literacy courses developed in collaboration with the Public Library Association (PLA). Additionally, AT&T employees and community volunteers will offer mentoring and tutoring services, enhancing educational support for local students. When introduced to these resources, the students’ excitement lit up the room.
“Many of the children that we serve, do not have access to computers or internet while they’re at home, so while they’re here at the club, under the supervision of our staff they are able to play games on the computers and more importantly learn on the computers,” said Tricia Thomas, Executive Director of Boys and Girls Club of NEPA.
We launched this center as part of the AT&T Connected Learning® initiative to help bridge the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to the internet by 2030 and plans to open at least 100 CLCs across the country by the end of 2027.
Our CLCs bring a sense of excitement and opportunity to students who otherwise lack access to computers and the internet at home. Connectivity is a bridge to possibility, improving the way we move through our daily lives and enabling us to succeed in work, school and life. We recognize the profound impact of connectivity in helping shape communities worldwide, and we are committed to narrowing the digital divide and enabling more people to reap the full benefits of connectivity.
Our investment in the AT&T Connected Learning Center at the Boys and Girls Clubs in Scranton reflects our commitment to get more Americans connected and make an impact in the communities we serve. The center will give club members access to technology, as well as educational and mentoring resources, to help them succeed in digital school and job environments.
With AT&T’s $100,000 contribution, the club purchased Chromebooks for students and other equipment for the club, with plans to add more in the future. We know that with these tools students will have the opportunity to thrive in this digital age.
“We are so appreciative of our relationship with AT&T and their investment in the children we serve at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania,” said Tricia Thomas, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
