Roadtrip Nation rolled through the Northeast as part of their Making Waves Tour, a collaboration with AT&T Connected Learning Centers (CLC) and local organizations. The Making Waves Tour is a nationwide event tour stopping in 10 cities to engage with local teens, help them explore possible future career paths and increase their access to digital learning resources.
The Roadtrip Nation (RTN) tour stopped in Rochester, New York, on October 8th to meet with students from AT&T CLC collaborator Cameron Community Ministries. RTN met with more than 65 students at Flower City School No. 54. In Rochester, AT&T launched a CLC at Cameron Community Ministries this past summer.
Local media covered the event, which was also attended by local public officials who spoke to the teens about their own career paths.
Then on October 10th, RTN visited the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston’s Edgerley Family South Boston Club where 100 students came out from around the city to talk with volunteers, participate in workshops and check out the AT&T CLC.
AT&T launched a new CLC with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston in May. This was the first CLC in New England and specifically serves participants of BGCB’s Ready to Work program, which supports academic and workforce readiness for students pursuing career and college goals.
RTN’s Making Waves Tour is supported by a $585,000 contribution from AT&T. The goal of the tour is to bolster digital learning, help narrow the digital divide, build life skills and inspire young people to leverage these resources as they pursue college or career and define their own road in life.
During the Rochester and Boston events, Roadtrip Nation’s “roadies” engaged students in a variety of activities and presentations about exploring interests, goal setting, and “making waves” to impact positive change in their communities and beyond. They showcased the AT&T CLCs and the many digital resources and technology available to the Boston community, including The Achievery platform.
“Connectivity has become a key to nearly every door of opportunity, but millions of Americans still don’t have access to technology or high-speed internet,” said John Emra, President – AT&T Atlantic Region. “We were excited to have Roadtrip Nation visit Rochester and Boston to share their experiences, their career guidance and open the door to digital skills and resources they can use to become our next generation of leaders.”
This effort is part of the AT&T Connected Learning® initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030. Learn more at att.com/connectedlearning.
Roadtrip Nation is a national nonprofit organization committed to supporting a more equitable future where all learners and career seekers have access to opportunity and pathways to pursue their vision for themselves.
“One of our core values at Roadtrip Nation is adaptability – and what better way to adapt to the learning needs of K-12 students today than by infusing their education with meaningful digital storytelling,” said Mike Marriner, Co-Founder and President, Roadtrip Nation. “The research clearly shows us that students are eager to engage with these tools, so providing greater visibility and accessibility to them is an essential part of supporting the next generation of learners. We’re thrilled to be a part of this initiative, and we hope to expand The Achievery’s reach beyond this 10-day tour.”
