Catching up
Working together with our friends at the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso (BGCEP) we were proud to open a new AT&T Connected Learning Center in El Segundo Barrio in El Paso, Texas last fall. To celebrate, AT&T volunteers and members from the BGCEP joined with local students and families last November to cut the ribbon on the new center and check out all the new space has to offer – including computers, Wi-Fi, and digital literacy resources.
How it happened?
Each of our Connected Learning Centers are built on teamwork with organizations who share our commitment to bringing resources and opportunities to more people – and this center was no different.
The BGCEP identified their facility in El Segundo Barrio as the right place to build this center, bringing digital resources closer to those who need it. From there, we tapped into our longtime relationships with Dell Technologies and World Wide Technology to fit the center – with Dell providing 15 computers, and WWT providing the configuring and installation.
Why it matters?
El Segundo Barrio is a historic Hispanic neighborhood and one of the oldest neighborhoods in El Paso. For students and families living in the area, they now have a place they can visit before or after school and on the weekends to get work done and set themselves up for success.
Yes, and…
To make the event even more special, AT&T volunteers handed out 100 free refurbished laptops for students to take home so they can continue learning and exploring new subjects outside of the center.
Go Deeper
As a result of our close relationship with the Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA), we have opened 7 Connected Learning Centers within local Boys & Girls Clubs across the country.
Our Connected Learning Centers are part of our Connected Learning initiative to help bridge the digital divide for students, caregivers and families so that they can participate and thrive in our increasingly digital world. Each center is opened within local nonprofit organizations that have gained the trust of their communities at know how to best serve their neighbors.
What’s next?
For students and families in the El Paso area, they can now come visit the center to access the host of opportunities that are made possible through digital resources. In the free space, they can now study for their next big test, apply for colleges, or find a new hobby.
And we plan on building on our relationship with the BGCA, as well as other local community organizations, to continue bringing digital resources and opportunities so that more students and families can reach their full potential.
