Earlier this year, a group of dedicated AT&T volunteers along with Human-I-T and local community organizations provided South Los Angeles students and families with computers and other resources.
The computers, funded by an AT&T donation to Human-I-T, were provided to Los Angeles area residents in need to help them fully participate in our modern world and to help to help bridge the digital divide.
To help fully capture the joy and happiness surrounding the event, So Young Shelly Yo was on location to meet the recipients and tell their story.
During the event, Shelly used her filmmaking skills to document the transformative power of digital connectivity. The short film provides an impactful viewpoint on our reliance on digital connectivity, underscoring AT&T’s commitment to bridge the digital divide and encourage digital proficiency in underserved communities.
Yo is the 2022 recipient of the AT&T Presents: Untold Stories top prize. This initiative grants one million dollars, mentorship, and distribution to underrepresented filmmakers, amplifying unique stories on a global stage at the Tribeca Film Festival. Her film, “Smoking Tigers,” will debut at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival.
This event was a collaborative effort with community-based organizations, including the Los Angeles Clippers Foundation, Community Coalition of South Los Angeles, Concerned Black Men of LA and The Right Way Foundation to help close the digital divide.
These efforts are part of the AT&T Connected Learning initiative, created as part of our companywide, $2 billion commitment from 2021- 2023, to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption.
Having access to computers is vital in helping to bridge the digital divide and having Shelly Yo display the difference made in people’s lives through the donation of laptops is truly impactful.
