For Communities with High-Speed Internet, the Sky’s the Limit

When a light breeze rustles the vibrant green grass on the gently rolling hillsides of Steve and Karen Greenwell’s 15-acre cattle farm, it’s impossible not to be struck by the beauty and peacefulness of the rural landscape.

But despite the tranquil setting, the community in which their farm is situated is buzzing with excitement about a huge milestone: AT&T recently completed an AT&T Fiber® buildout to the entire county, more than 20,000 customer locations, bringing high-speed connectivity – and all the opportunity that comes with it.

Steve and Karen’s roots in Oldham County run deep; they both grew up and raised their own family in this beautiful area of the country. So, they’re naturally invested in their community’s success and want to see it thrive.

Getting high-speed internet with AT&T earlier this year marked a dramatic change for the entire community. According to Steve, “it was just like a wildfire” when his neighbors learned high-speed internet was coming to their neck of the woods. “They just wanted it really bad. I had a guy that I called up and said, it’s now available. He said, well, I just talked to somebody and [they] said we wouldn’t get it in this century. I said, no, that’s not true. It’s here and now.”

For Steve and Karen, having high-speed internet access has positively impacted both their professional and personal lives, making it easier to sell cattle, buy feed, research fixes for broken machinery, and stream college football without buffering. And, Steve notes, “broadband opens up a lot of opportunities for communities like ours.”

In particular, Steve says about his work on the farm: “Whenever I get ready to sell my cattle, I always look at the cattle market… With the high-speed internet, I can just go to the laptop, pull up three markets that are close to me, see which one is selling the cattle highest at that point in time, and then make my decision based upon that.”

Creating connection is at the heart of everything we do at AT&T, and our work in Oldham County is just one example of how we are investing in the future of America’s connectivity needs.

For communities like Steve’s with high-speed internet, the sky’s the limit.
