Teaming up with AARP and Urban League to Expand Digital Literacy for Older Americans

At AT&T, we work with organizations in Kansas and across the country to help equip people of all ages – from elementary school students to seniors – with the tools and training that are so important in today’s technology-focused society.

In September, I joined some of my colleagues in Wichita to highlight a digital literacy training program we’re working on with AARP Kansas and Urban League Of Kansas.

Through an AARP Kansas technology initiative, older Americans can enroll in free Senior Planet® classes from AARP. These classes, available both in-person in Kansas and virtually on Senior Planet’s website, cover current digital trends and topics, including online safety, introduction to emails, introduction to social media, and introduction to service apps such as food delivery. Additionally, the adult learners will have access to the comprehensive digital literacy resources that are part of the AT&T Connected Learning® initiative.

During the special event on September 10 in Wichita, Glenda DuBoise, state director, AARP Kansas told us “as technology has become an essential part of our daily lives, we owe it to our seniors to create and even expand digital literacy programs to help them get and stay connected, informed, and engaged, ultimately enhancing their independence and quality of life.”

AARP Kansas is hosting the classes at the Urban League of Kansas now through March 2025. Visit this site to find more information.

Cindy Miles, interim president and CEO of the Urban League of Kansas told us about how her organization works “to provide solutions to assist the urban community in achieving economic self-reliance and an improved quality of life through access to education, resources, and opportunities. We are leveraging the power of technology and connectivity to achieve our goals.”

Our support for this program is part of the AT&T Connected Learning® initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. We’re committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030. Learn more about how AT&T is working  to help learners of all ages here.
