For leaders at the Boys & Girls Club in Wausau, it’s been a very busy summer. The Club has seen more kids in need this year than ever before, and those needs are expected to continue into the school year.
One significant challenge children at the Wausau Boys & Girls Club will face this fall is access to technology and the internet – a challenge that can affect their success in school.
Many youth served by the Club have little to no access to technology at home – or they lack sufficient devices – to complete their homework. The Club steps in to bridge that digital divide by providing students with access to devices, high-speed internet, and computer software programs – support these students need to build academic skills and complete homework during the school year.
Thanks to AT&T, the Club’s efforts are receiving a big boost this fall to help even more kids in the Wausau area. A $10,000 AT&T contribution will support the Club’s Academic Success program, which provides digital literacy, digital learning, academic enrichment, and job training for youth in need. The support is part of AT&T’s nationwide commitment to bridge the digital divide.
“This summer has been off the charts. It has been our biggest summer ever, and we see the need continuing into the school year,” said Kim Larsen, Director of the Boys & Girls Club of the Wausau area. “This fall, many of our kids will face challenges having the technology, devices, and digital training they need to be successful in school. This contribution from AT&T will go a long way towards helping us support our youth who face digital barriers.”
The digital divide is the gap between those who have access to modern information and communications technology and those who don’t. Without connectivity, not everyone has the access to the same opportunities that technology offers to succeed in work and school. Today, the digital divide hinders millions of Americans from having the information they need to thrive in this modern world.
As a company, AT&T believes all Americans, especially our youth, should be connected to the future, regardless of income or zip code. We are proud to support the Boys & Girls Club of the Wausau area as they help bridge the digital divide for youth in need.
